Entertainment &amp; Expression Consider what happens if the internet goes down for extended periods of time, or is throttled by unexpected new use from at-home working. Books you’ve been wanting to read Journal + Pens Downloaded episodes of shows, movies, etc Art Supplies for 14 days of expression Film stocked and fully-charged batteries for documentation of whatever comes next. Artworks And to my artist friends, consider preparing your printed and physical works, film, negatives, and hard drives for secured storage (i.e. wrapped in heavy duty saran, styro, water +fireproofed and pallet secured). This is only in the event of personal evacuation, hospitalization and looters. The Film -01 When a malevolent spirit (the personification of guilt, perhaps) whispers a static murmur into a young woman's ear, she searches for the source of the sound and her way out of her terror and remorse. The film contains moments of stillness and extreme violence. Din is an experience-driven film exploring a territory I call “active viewing.” In an “active viewing” film, the audience is thrust into a world textured in sound, psychology, and time. Time dilates and bends. The result is a work equally immersive as it is demanding.&nbsp; Realization -02This film was micro-budget, but I love that challenge. It provides a space for creativity and experimentation to thrive. I crafted props and filled the thiefs hotel room with curated props.&nbsp; Sound -03 Every scrape and shuffle, whimper plays in contrast with gunfire. After picture lock, meticulously fabrics and foley recorded in ambisonic and finalized in 5.1 as well as stereo. REA allows the viewer to create their own meaning. If the viewer grazes, they will see something beautiful and if they immerse, they will discover something new from within.&nbsp; The audio was produced and performed with Ableton Live and visuals modeled, programmed and performed in real-time with TouchDesigner. Cycle 1 is an exploration of nature, music and generative visuals to evoke a heart rate coherence. Research indicates that with practicing heart rate coherence you can release stress, narrow focus, get better sleep, and expelling the energies that divide you from being in your most complete form.&nbsp;I created the generative visuals with code and footage from my personal archives to help induce these feelings even further.&nbsp;For best results, watch in full-screen in a dark room with headphones or a sound system. For Cycle 2 I dove into how I could trick the mind into a creative flow state. Flow in creative work requires concentration. The deeper submersion under the creative ocean, the deeper the commitment. For the visuals, I've created images from wind, noise, inertia and water. All visuals are performed live. Cycle 3 is a study in light and time. The audio is a collage assembled from my field recordings of the electrical journey from substation (as close as I could get) to transformer and finally to the neighborhood distribution (power lines). Slowing down and mangling the tape on this reveals their brittle intensity. CAUTION: Wild frequencies on this one.&nbsp;For the visual, I crafted a lens modification to achieve a unique and ultra macro perspective. These deformations of light show the hidden worlds and kinetic shape of electricity hitting a film sensor. I’m fascinated with the mysteries hidden within unseen forces like the magic in the wind or a being in flight. In Cycle 4 I’ve 3d modeled a set of wings and set it loose in a simulation visualizing an amplification of both.The video was performed and recorded live. Cycle 5 is a realtime audio stretching and 3D environmental manipulation of a candle and flame. In psyphology, the peverbial mask serves as protection to base natural desires. This was not the intention with this project. “teeth don’t bite” dives beyond the Id and uses four characters to explore neurodivergent manifestations: drug dependence, vanity, social anxiety, and communication paralysis. We approached this film to entertain and delight first and hope our audience will emerge with a bit more joy and a bit more understanding for one another. Lofty goals, yes? For me, it’s a fun romp through fantastical layers of metaphor to the wonderfully ethereal music of one of the greatest creators of music in the last decade. I can continue to pontificate, but a reviewer summarized the plot best: “it’s about a stoned, skateboarding yeti having a dream…and in that dream he’s having two daydreams. One of them is about a girl he once knew. The other is about a different girl that looks just like the first one. They and a bunch of other masked weirdos collide and reveal their true selves. But, there is a danger in nostalgia and, in this video, our villains distort their desire to experience youthful ephemera by extracting vitality from young victims. Who knows how many times they've done this...but this time is just one too many. If I were to make a philosophical statement about this piece, it would be that we can never fully relive a moment, so we might as well experience it the first time by living life all the way in, so keep your eyes open...especially for brain-sucking cabals. Process -02 To realize this strange vision I hand-crafted the vitality extraction helmet and sourced a leatherist from Lithuania to stitch the wardrobe for our subject.&nbsp;For the oscilliscope, I wanted something that could be easily manipulated to bend and twist with the music, so I created a program in Touchdesigner and syned with over 20 parameters via MIDI controller. While the preproduction of this project was months in the making we shot everything in one day on location in Los Angeles, California.
